Dear Faculty:
The program review process
at NSCC provides faculty
with the opportunity for periodic self-assessment of their instructional
programs. Through this process faculty gain a deeper sense of their
programs’ characteristics and accomplishments. Analysis of data and
collaboration with colleagues enable faculty to recognize and describe changes
that have occurred over time in curriculum, facilities, enrollment, faculty,
students, and partnerships. This analytic process compares results with intended
outcomes. It involves a close examination of student progress and resources
required for the program. Ultimately, it stimulates planning for improvements
and creating new possibilities for program growth and renewal.
This process is intended to engage both full-time and part-time faculty in a thoughtful dialog about how their programs/departments are evolving and how well they are achieving their goals. This should not be a mundane task to be completed by individual, isolated effort. The greatest benefit comes from rich conversation among peers who share their perspectives about the instructional program in which they all participate. This process can validate strengths and successes and also give new insights and opportunities for continuous improvement. I urge you to make it a significant and meaningful experience.
