Colleges and Universities for Early Childhood Education: University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, has an Early Childhood Education Program that leads to teacher licensure for birth (pre-kindergarten) through grade three. The program has approximately 120 majors and operates the Campus Children's Center. It is nationally ranked by the U.S. Department of Education as one of a handful of "exemplary" early childhood teacher education programs in the United States. East Tennesee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, is developing a program of national significance. Their Center for Early Childhood Learning and Development is Reggio-inspired. Virginia Polytechnic and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, has a child development laboratory school in the Department of Human Development. They did the Great Duck Pond Project. Dr. Victoria Fu. Helen Gordon Child Development Center at Portland State University in Oregon makes attending here a rich experience. A glance at their courses shows they work at documentation and REALLY listening to the children. s University of New Hampshire Child Study and Development Center in Durham, NH, models project learning/emergent curriculum. National-Louis University's Early Childhood Department provides educational experiences that prepare individuals to become early childhood professionals who support and improve the quality of programs and services for young children, their families, and the communities in which they live. The Center for Early Childhood Leadership is there. They offer on line courses. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA has a Reggio -inspired program also and a beautiful facility in the Cyert Center for Early Education which serves as the child care center for the university. |
