CCE 232 Parent Involvement in Early Childhood

Everything I learned from this class is really useful, truly. It touched my heart. It's hard to put it into words how much I love/get from this class. You just have to come in and experience it.

—Ju-yu Yen, early educator

I was not prepared for the outlook I know have. I thought this class would help me find ways to get parents to start participating. What I found is my responsibility to give parents these opportunties. This is really teacher involvement.

—Nitikka S. Hoyer teacher, parent, and aide

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this class, other than that it would be worth my while to learn about how to better involve parents I work with. The result? TRANSFORMATION. Like all classes in this program: authentic change, reflection, new ideas, insights into both myself and parenting.

—Breanne Hyatt, early educator

I didn't know what to expect in this class, because I thought the topic didn't have much to explore. I was so wrong. Over the quarter I realized there was so much more I could be doing to make families more central to the school experience. This is the only place I have heard this discussion about how to do it effectively and genuinely.

—Jessica Owens, early educator

Well, it was Tom's class. I expected magic! What happens was magic. I feel very empowered as a parent and very aware and open as a teacher to what I can do to include families in the truest sense.

— Aldona Mitchell, writer, photographer, parent, and early educator

Overall, the experience was good. I had some very meaningful conversations with my peers in small groups and built some good relationships. The environment was supportive and safe for conflicting views. There seemed to be an undercurrent of personal agendas in the class that I wasn't expecting. I'm still sitting with my thoughts on that.

— Lyn Stuart, Bright Horizons

This class was interesting. I found new ways to involve my families and let them see how important they are. I discovered how working as partners develops a stronger community.

— Felicia Roberts, early educator

I didn't expect the class to get so deep and personal. By taking this class my eyes have been opened to a lot of things. I am going to try to incorporate these into my classroom. I really recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn new ways to get the parents involved in the classroom. It was an excellent class.
